Screened by Brentwood Arts Cinema Club
A subtle, intelligent and profoundly moving film based on the acclaimed novel by Pat Barker, ‘Regeneration’ tells the stories of several British Army officers brought together in Craiglockhart War Hospital where they are treated for ‘shell shock’. Notable amongst them are the hero and war poet Siegfried Sassoon, sent there after publicly objecting to the continuation of the war and Wilfred Owen, who benefits from meeting Sassoon in the development of his own poetry. The interactions with other patients and their psychiatrist William Rivers challenge our perspectives on the war and the treatment of the wounded.
Please note that the film has been rated by MPAA as R for war-related violent images, and some sexuality and language. View the IMDB’s Parent Guide for more information.
